Letterpress Printing

We can print on just about anything! We are known for our perfect impression and impeccable alignment. We will print and trim all your prints down to final size for you.

What we can print on:

Our house paper is Lettra in Fluorescent white and Pearl white in both 220# and 110#

We do not print at final size. We print on a larger piece of paper that we then trim down. This allows us to make sure alignment is on-point and that all those edges are CRISP and clean. Our printing press has grippers, which are used to hold the paper in place while it’s printing, and because of that we cannot print at final size.

We can print at final size for handmade paper, but all designs need to be at least 1” from the top or the bottom to allow space for the grippers.

Every ink color is hand mixed and applied to a system of rollers before each print is hand-fed through the press. Given the manual nature of all aspects of the print process, slight variations in ink distribution, pressure, and alignment occur, making each print unique.

Die Cutting

We have 119 (and counting) dies in our in-house library for your use! We are also happy to order a new die with your custom die line for any project!

SHARED COST DIES:

Stationer to Stationer shares the cost of most custom dies 50/50 with clients. If a custom die costs $100, you pay $50, and we pay $50*. We keep the die in our library for future use by all of our clients, including you!

If you prefer the die to be proprietary, you would then pay the full cost of the die. You keep the die proprietary and pay 100% of the new die fee. We will keep it in our studio and you can use it anytime you want, and no one needs to know. We’re really good at keeping secrets. (We can ship the die to you if you prefer to have it).

FULL COST DIES:

S2S does not share costs for die-cut shapes that are highly specific to the current design and may not be readily adaptable for future use. We evaluate proposed die-cut shapes for shared cost based on versatility and reusability across other design projects.

*All die-cut shapes with a cost exceeding $250 will be evaluated for shared cost approval. Our goal is to make your ability to play with fun die cut shapes more doable in your client projects! If you need a die that is not in this library, email us at printing@knappdesignco.com with a vector file. Dies can vary in price, so we'll always get a quote before you commit to anything.

DIE USAGE:

Using our in-house dies is always free. We will never charge you a “die fee” for using them. The only time we have to charge you for a die is if it’s new! Our die guy has to feed his dogs somehow!

We will die cut blank paper, letterpress prints, or digital prints that have no letterpress.

For die cutting on digital prints, we like to work with Printswell because they have the best registration we have seen in the industry. If you’d like to print with them and send to us for die cutting, please reach out to us prior to ordering. We will tell you what size to print, how many we need, and approve your design file for print so that everything is set up correctly for alignment! We’d hate to waste a good print!

Duplexing

Duplexing is gluing two pieces of substrate together with glue and then applying even pressure while it dries. We are fortunate enough to live in Colorado where we have relatively low humidity, so drying takes about 36 hours. Duplexing adds about 2-3 days to the printing process due to the dry time. After the duplexed paper is dry, we trim the sheets before printing to ensure the paper is square for proper print alignment.

Other Finishing & Assembly

Finishing services we offer:

• Hole punching
• Corner rounding
• Scoring
• Pocket Assembly

We will also partially assemble your items for you! When we die cut pockets, we’re happy to assemble and/or mount them to the backer for you! We use Scortape to assemble all pockets because it is STICKY and can withstand heat and cold (you know, normal things it might encounter in the mail!).

If you are in a pinch and need us to pre-assemble items for a wedding, let us know and we can see what we can do. We’ve letterpressed, die cut, and assembled menus for a stationer who was in a bit of a pickle so they could reach her client in time. We wouldn’t want you to miss any deadlines and are happy to assist!

Embossing & Foil

Right now we offer small embossing projects and foil projects in-house. For full sized invitations in foil, or for embossing requiring heat like sculpted embossing or large embossed designs, we work with a local printer to coordinate those services for you. They do an impeccable job and include us in every step of the process.

Edge Painting

We now offer edge painting (also known as edge coloring) in house. It’s such a fun finish and we’re delighted to add this service to our offerings. When submitting a project for edge coloring, simply indicate the desired pantone color on the submission form and we’ll match it!

Edge Beveling

We do not offer edge beveling in house, but are happy to send them out for you after we print. We use a company called Edgeworks. We are happy to facilitate all edge bevel with them for you OR we can mail any prints to them from our studio for you to facilitate the edge finishing services. As a note, Edgeworks does require specific sizes and overage for setup and production. If you choose to facilitate the edge services yourself, be sure to coordinate with them prior to submitting final numbers to S2S to ensure you have the needed quantities and sizes for their minimum requirements.
